Storytime for the New Year

The New Year is a great time to do a storytime about fireworks, the months of the year, and new beginnings. The following are some of my favorites for this storytime theme.

“Cheer, cheer, cheer the year”

A song to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” this song gets the tots moving. I gave mine bells for the last verse to add some pizzazz.

“Cheer, cheer, cheer the year”
(To the tune of “Row, row, row your boat”)
Cheer, cheer, cheer the year
A new one’s just begun.
Celebrate with all your friends,
Let’s go have some fun!

Clap, clap, clap your hands,
A brand new year is here.
Learning, laughing, singing, clapping,
Through another year.

Ring ring ring the bells,
Ring them loud and clear.
Let’s tell everyone around
That the New Year is here!

“The Clock is Ticking Down”

Use the tamborine and / or pass out bells to get the most out of this one. “Boom” and “bang” for the best response!

The clock is ticking down.
Get ready for the sound.
Boom, Bang, its 12 o’clock
Fireworks all around!

“10 Little Fireworks”
(to the tune of 10 Little …)
…10 little fireworks in the sky)


I usually don’t do holiday storytimes, see my post here for more information on that. Despite this, this storytime felt pretty solid. It felt like we were learning more about months and celebration that the New Year
