“Bananas Unite!”
This very silly action rhyme should get everybody moving!
Bananas Unite!
Bananas Unite!
(clap hands above head)
We pick bananas, pick pick bananas
(do a “milking” motion up and down in the air)
And peel bananas, peel peel bananas
(hands spread to side-right and left alternating)
And chop bananas, chop chop bananas
(karate chop in front of body)
And mash bananas, mash mash bananas
(hands in fists, “pounding” the air)
And eat bananas, eat eat bananas
(“scoop” bananas into your mouth)
Then go bananas!
(jump around wildly)
“The Soup is Boiling Up”
I adapted this one into a longer action rhyme from the third verse. I like it because we pretend to make soup and then pretend to serve and eat it together. It’s kind of sweet when you think about it!
“The Soup is Boiling Up ”
(Farmer in the Dell)
First we cook the broth,
First we cook the broth,
Stir slow, around we go,
First we cook the broth.
Then we add some rice,
Then we add some rice,
Stir, slow, around we go,
Then we add some rice.
The soup is boiling up
The soup is boiling up,
Oh, no! Stir very slow,
The soup is boiling up.
And now we serve the soup,
and now we serve the soup,
We pass out plates, for goodness sake,
And now we serve the soup.
“What Should I Eat?”
This song is call and response to the tune of “Frere Jacques.” I made some clipart flannels of each food and hid them until their verse, so it was always a funny surprise! They loved this activity so much! I will definitely be looking for opportunities to repeat it!
“What Should I Eat?”
I am hungry! (I am hungry)
What should I eat? (What should I eat?)
Think I’ll have some pizza
(think I’ll have some pizza)
Without any meat! (Without any meat).
I am hungry! (I am hungry)
What should I eat? (What should I eat?)
Think I’ll have tomato soup
(think I’ll have tomato soup)
With lots of heat! (With lots of heat).
I am hungry! (I am hungry)
What should I eat? (What should I eat?)
Think I’ll have some spaghetti
(Think I’ll have some spaghetti)
What a treat! (What a treat!)
I am hungry! (I am hungry)
What should I eat? (What should I eat?)
Think I’ll have some ice cream
(think I’ll have some ice cream)
Now everybody scream! (AHHH)
“Let’s Make a Pancake”
This little rhyme is good for toddlers because the actions are very simple and familiar. It also incorporates a little pretend play so that is great, too!
Let’s Make a Pancake
Let’s make a pancake pat pat pat (pat hands)
Do not make it fat fat fat (spread hands apart)
You must keep it flat flat flat (press hands together)
Make a pancake just like that (clap)
