“Will You Be a Friend of Mine?”

I love this song and the simple motions make it a blast for the tots. We sang it for the word “friend,” but it also works as a transitional song for any storytime!

“Will You Be a Friend of Mine?”
(to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)
Will you be a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine?
Will you be a friend of mine and [insert action word]
around with me? jump… bow… clap… hop on one foot…

Planting Seeds

For this activity, I made a “garden” from a box that allowed me to pull out different colored “flowers.” You could also do this with flannels, or probably even scarves.

Sing song as you “sow” seeds in the box garden. After singing, pull out a flower and talk about the color. Repeat for each flower.

“Planting Seeds”
(call and response)
Planting seeds (planting seeds)
In my garden (in my garden)
I wonder what will grow (I wonder what will grow)
Soon we’ll know (soon we’ll know)

“A Tadpole, A Tadpole”

For this activity, I made a large tadpole flannel and used it along with my frog puppet.

“A Tadpole, A Tadpole”
(To the tune of “a-tisket, a-tasket”)
A tadpole, a tadpole
A black and tiny tadpole
He had a tail like a teeny whale
But suddenly he lost it,
He lost it! He lost it!
Suddenly he lost it
He grew four legs and then he started hoppin’!
